In a world that continues to become more divisive and hateful, sports present an interesting view into the human experience. Sports can bond us. Go to your local bar and cheer, "Go [insert local team]", and you will likely be met with sudden comradery. Sports can also create conflict. Wear a Cowboys jersey in Philadelphia and you will instantly question if that city has any brotherly love. It's beautiful dichotomy.
While I love fandoms of sports for how they serve as a microcosm of human interaction, so much of the commentary in sports is mere sensationalism. Much of the nuance of a sport today gets reduced to parlays, barbershop debates, and fantasy outcomes.
My goal is not to add fuel to the fire, but rather celebrate those who represent what I hope to see changed in sports media. My own commentary will certainly compare the careers and talents of others, but the intent will be to educate and drive appreciation for the game.
